For anyone who has been following this blog, you may note that it has not been updated for several months. Ironic, considering that the very first post was a commentary on the importance of having a regular flow of content on your site.

A large part of the reason for the lack of recent updates has been that we’ve been stuck in the process of redeveloping the site for a number of months now. I have yet to meet a fellow web developer who does not suffer from a severe case of “cobblers shoes”, and we’re no different!

I have caught, and severely chastised myself for getting too bogged down in insignificant details, drawn in the minutiae that, really, nobody outside of Mimo would actually care about.

This is not uncommon with a lot of projects we’ve worked on for clients in the past. Investing in your website, whether it be with money or with time, is a process which can quite often see you getting so close to the project that you can easily lose sight of what is important in terms of your main goals and objectives, and inevitably that slows down progress to a crawl.

It’s important to remember what it is you are trying to achieve with your website, and to make sure efforts are put forth to meet those objectives, keeping in mind that what you want personally may not tally up with what your users and visitors will want. Sometimes you really need to take yourself out of the equation in order to get some clarity on the whole process.

Fortunately this is something we’ve managed to snap ourselves back into with our own site, and the redevelopment is nearing a close. So, like it or, you’ll be hearing a lot more from us again from here on out, and in the meantime you can take comfort that even us “pro’s” suffer from the same journey most clients do!

This is exactly the reason that my own website has remained as it is since I first hurriedly threw it up in 2007.

Sure, I’ve updated the code a little here and there, but the concept hasn’t changed because I can’t even get to the end of a plan without changing my mind.

As you say, it’s all to easy to fall foul of the cobblers shoes…
